White paper swaddled the package on the table in front of me.  A mystery ready to be unraveled, an adventure to be begun, I unwrapped one end and eased back the paper.  An object of beauty glistened back – a thick slice of bacon.  Sesame seeds punctuated the long bun cradling my bacon and egg sandwich…

cafes in shin osakaI finished up a meet-up in a part of Osaka that I don’t visit very often – “Shin Umeda” (“New Umeda) and found Café Tipo8 – a café and coffee roaster.

As the pasta menu had closed for the day, I was left with a choice of “bun-y” options – namely a couple of kinds of hot dog and an egg and bacon sandwich… on a sesame hot dog bun.  Being the bacon lover I am, the choice was clear.

The sandwich impressed – the bacon, substantial.  Not some little paper thin cut of pork belly.  The smoky goodness brought my mouth to such a happy place.

Tanzania Kilimanjaro coffee brightened my mouth with its fruity head and woody after notes.

The flavors of coffee and bacon played nicely together in my mouth.

Gentle bossa nova jazz calmed the airwaves with mellowness.

Only a handful customers occupied the 30 or so seats in the post-lunch rush.english speaking cafes in umeda

Hours:
Weekdays 8:00 to 18:00
Weekend 10:00 to 18:00

If you’re craving a nicotine fix, they have you covered with an air-tight smoking room.
I was at Tipo8 for over 3 hours.  I sat in non-smoking section and the whole time I was there, I didn’t smell even a whisp of smoke.
